A little bit of history - Part 2

When going back to the Voortrekker Monument the second time, I was more focused on photographing the details than paying attention to the history (as when I went the first time).

Another interesting fact: It took 12 years to build the monument.
SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSCSONY DSCSONY DSC On the inside there are stairs going up - looking down on the Cenotaph - and stairs going down to the museum. There are lifts but my mom thought it would be much more fun for the kids to climb the stairs - while you’re there why not take the scenic route, right? So we down into the museum and then climbed all the way to the top and obviously, down again. My cousin (Xander) asked if my mom could write down for him how many stairs he climbed that day so that he could go show all his friends at school :)SONY DSC

Yes, she had to sign it just to make it official.

OMG I was thre last Sunday doing exactly the same thing ... had not been there since high school (many, many, many yaars ago) and went there on prupose to appreciate the deail, the architecture and to take pictures ..... hehe!!! I've just not had time to upload any images yet...
